Report: Marvel Making Internal Shift to Focus on Games

Insomniac Games Confirms Its Marvel Universe’s Main Spider-Man

Insomniac Games has commented on the future of its Marvel’s Spider-Man series, and hinted at who would be the future “main” Spider-Man of the game franchise moving forward.

For those who didn’t play, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes to an end with Miles Morales heading out on a mission alone, telling Peter Parker to stay back with Mary Jane Watson and that he can handle the Spider-Man stuff for the time being.

Speaking to Gizmodo in a recent interview, Insomniac’s narrative director Ben Arfmann and advanced writer Brittney Morris spoke about the recently released game. In a question about the game’s ending, the pair spoke about how “natural” it was for Miles to sort of take over the role as the main Spider-Man, and that it shows his evolution as a hero.

“To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life,” Morris explained. “By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points.”

Arfmann echoed the point, noting that it was a key moment that the team decided they wanted to handle early on.

“It always felt very natural, and I think we all collectively thought it would happen,” said Arfmann. “To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life. By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points.”
