The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim‘s lead designer thinks fans will have to wait a long time before they hear anything more about the The Elder Scrolls VI.
In an interview with MinnMax, former Bethesda developer Bruce Nesmith discussed his thoughts on the next Elder Scrolls game. While he is no longer at Bethesda, he does think some of his “fingerprints” may remain on the game. Some things, like the magic system in Skyrim, will likely carry over to Elder Scrolls VI. However, Nesmith doesn’t think fans will hear anything definitive until roughly six months before the game launches.
When Will Elder Scrolls VI Come Out?
“[Todd Howard’s] opinion — which I share by the way — is that the video game industry has short memories,” Nesmith said. “Those companies that start touting their games years ahead of time, they screw themselves. The best time to start talking about it is six months before release. So only the fact that the pitchforks and torches were out, that was what got Todd to say, ‘Yes, we are going to do Elder Scroll VI — I promise you it’s for real, it’ll happen!'”
Nesmith continued, “But I’m betting you won’t hear much in the way of details until a good six months before release, which is the way it should be. I think that’s the best approach and he’s proven that works really well, at least for Bethesda.”
Bethesda remains committed to Starfield after its release, with Elder Scrolls VI next on its list. Previously, Xbox’s Phil Spencer confirmed that the Skyrim sequel was still five years away at least, putting its potential launch in 2028 at the earliest. That puts it at least ten years after its announcement and around the same year as Xbox’s projected next console. Skyrim itself originally released on November 11, 2011.
