Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 New Game Plus Coming by the End of 2023

Insomniac Games confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t have new game plus at launch, but it will by year’s end.

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases on October 20, specific features, including new game plus, won’t be immediately available. However, Insomniac’s James Stevenson assured fans on X (formerly Twitter) that the feature would come in an update by the end of 2023. Some fans voiced complaints over the lack of certain content at launch. When questioned why the game lacks the ability to change the time of day, Stevenson said, “Because game dev isn’t simple, nor easy.”

Insomniac’s Post-Launch Update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Stevenson confirmed that Insomniac is working on a sizeable post-launch update to give Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 some of these features. Until then, players who complete the game unlock the “ultimate” difficulty setting. However, players replaying the game without the new game plus mode won’t have access to the unlocked suits, upgrades, abilities, or gadgets from their first playthrough. This means players either have to rely on multiple save slots to return to their favorite moments or wait until the patch.

The question about new game plus appeared under a message Stevenson retweeted from Insomniac Games detailing patch 1.001.002. Insomniac encouraged disk-owning players to download the patch before playing the first missions, as it polishes and enhances certain parts at the beginning. Patch 1.001.002 also adds some accessibility features, though Insomniac did not clarify what those are. Similarly, the update for new game plus will include additional unspecified accessibility features. Those with a digital copy of the game will update to the patch automatically.

Insomniac has remained tight-lipped about other post-launch content for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. For the original 2018 game, Insomniac developed three DLC chapters that saw Peter encounter Black Cat. Its spinoff, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, did not have DLC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches on October 20 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
