Marvel's Spider-Man 2 launch trailer with Sandman.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Launch Trailer Highlights the Game’s Sinister Villains

The official launch trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 shows off the game’s villains with footage of Venom, Lizard, Mister Negative, and Sandman.

The trailer contains numerous reveals about Insomniac‘s upcoming title, including confirmation of Sandman and the latest glimpse at the returning Mister Negative. This marks the first time Sandman has appeared in the Marvel’s Spider-Man games. A particularly action-packed sequence sees Peter Parker and Miles Morales attempting to fight Sandman’s colossal figure.

A description for the game included with the trailer reads as follows: “Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise for the PS5 console. Nine months after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, we find Miles still enlisting Peter’s help, but when the mysterious symbiote appears, Peter and Miles’ relationships are put to the test. Peter begins to change as he gains symbiote powers, and Miles, Mary Jane, Harry, and the rest of the friend group must help Peter while also facing the impending threats from a cast of new villains like Kraven, Lizard, Sandman, and Venom!”

In addition to the Sandman and Mister Negative, Norman Osborn returns in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It remains unclear what his role might be after his failed tenure as Mayor in the first game. Many fans speculate that Venom is Norman’s son, Harry, based on a scene from the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Previously, Insomniac confirmed Eddie Brock would not be Venom, a twist from the comics.

Kraven the Hunter did not make an appearance in the new trailer. Like Venom, Kraven was one of the first villains revealed for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Technically, Kraven appeared through a voiceover in the very first teaser in 2021. However, fans didn’t get a glimpse of him until a trailer and gameplay premiered during Summer Game Fest.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launches exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on October 20.
