Warner Bros. Officially Announces MultiVersus Fighting Game

The long-rumored Warner Bros. Super Smash Bros. clone isn’t a rumor anymore. Via IGN, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have officially unveiled the MultiVersus fighting game. It’s a free-to-play fighter for PC and consoles that will support cross-platform play. Additionally, it will draw upon some of the biggest characters from Warner Bros.’ library of comics, live-action, and animated icons.

Player First Games also unveiled a first-look video for MultiVersus, and it’s certainly not shying away from its Smash Bros. influence.

So far, the DC Universe is represented by Batman (Kevin Conroy), Superman (George Newburn), Wonder Woman (Abby Trott), and Harley Quinn (Tara Strong). Maisie Williams is also reprising her role as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. In fact, Player First Games has made it a point of bringing in as many of the original voices as possible. From Adventure Time, Jeremy Shada and John DiMaggio are back as Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, respectively. Steven Universe (Daniel DiVenere) is representing his own show alongside Garnet (Estelle). Additionally, Matthew Lillard is voicing Scooby-Doo‘s Shaggy as a surprisingly powerful fighter.

Eric Bauza is voicing a trio of icons: Tom and Jerry, as well as Bugs Bunny. Andrew Frankel is also among the voice talent as Reindog, a new character created for the game. The video notes that each character’s abilities can be used in junction with their teammates during  1v1, 2v2, and 4-player free-for-all matches. There will also be new skins and new characters regularly added to the game.

So far, MultiVersus will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. There’s no word on whether it will come to Switch as well. The game will be released in 2022.
