The Guardians of the Galaxy Video Game Gets a Prequel Novel, Art Book

During last weekend’s E3, Square Enix announced that a new Guardians of the Galaxy video game is arriving later this year. But the action isn’t stopping after the game hits consoles on October 26. Marvel is teaming up with Titan Books to release a new prequel novel with a story that leads directly into the Guardians’ upcoming game. You can check out a preliminary cover for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: No Guts, No Glory below.

This isn’t the first time Square Enix has fleshed out the universe for one of its games in book form. The studio also partnered with Titan last year on another novel that took place before the events of Marvel’s Avengers. M.K. England has been enlisted to write the novel. She is best known for her young-adult sci-fi novel, The Disasters. With No Guts, No Glory, England will follow the cosmic heroes for hire as they attempt to “gently escort” a squatter from an old Resistance base. They will also run afoul of a mysterious “wartime traitor” along the way.

Additionally, Titan will take players behind the scenes with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Game by Matt Ralphs. The book promises to give “fascinating insights” from the artists and developers who worked on the game. It will also include concept art for several characters, planets, creatures, and more. Ralphs previously authored a similar book that detailed the making of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: No Guts, No Glory and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Art of the Game will hit stores on November 2. Pre-orders for both books go live tomorrow, June 17.
