Square Enix is releasing Marvel’s Avengers in just over three months. But there’s still plenty of unknown elements about the upcoming game headlined by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, we do know that the core team members won’t be the only super-powered characters making an appearance. In fact, it looks like the developers will be introducing some brand new heroes and villains with roles to play in the game’s story.
Cherry Thompson, an accessibility specialist in the video game industry, recently announced her involvement with Marvel’s Avengers on Twitter. Thompson revealed that Crystal Dynamics recruited her to provide motion capture for a wheelchair-bound NPC named Cerise. Thompson’s character also happens to be an Inhuman. Additionally, you can check out a photo of Cerise along with behind-the-scenes images of Thompson below.
Big news!!! I’ve been dying to talk about this for a year and a half!!!
Last year… I did some Motion Capture for @CrystalDynamics’ @PlayAvengers in my wheelchair
A sneak peek at the character based on my moves! And look, it’s me with real life stunt men!!! In a funny suit!! https://t.co/6K7BWZitdI pic.twitter.com/m7mhOeD22j

It’s no secret that Inhumans will factor heavily into Marvel’s Avengers’ narrative. The game will also feature Kamala Khan, an Inhuman whose stretching powers are activated after exposure to the Terrigen Mist that powers the Avengers’ experimental helicarrier at the beginning of the story. However, the inclusion of a character like Cerise is part of Square Enix’s push for more diversity and representation in video games. The studio’s senior community and social media manager, Meagan Marie, also explained this mission in a new interview published on the official Square Enix website.
“Our goal is to normalize representation within our game world by reflecting the diversity of the real world,” said Marie. “We have scenes in the game like A-Day which is essentially a comic book convention – having representation in a crowd of people who are all there sharing a passion for Super Heroes is important to us.”
Marvel’s Avengers will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and also Google Stadia on September 4.
