Ever since its release, Star Wars Battlefront II has seen a number of consistent updates including DLC based on The Last Jedi and The Clone Wars. However, it doesn’t sound like there are any immediate plans to move forward with a third game in the series. DICE’s Dennis Brannvall recently spoke with PCGamesN about the possibility of a Star Wars Battlefront sequel. And while he didn’t shut the door on it completely, it isn’t happening anytime soon.
“Sequels are probably still viable otherwise people wouldn’t be doing them,” said Brannvall. “But it’s not the same hunger as it used to be. We were so used to the chain of sequels, where we do a sequel then we do a season pass for a year then move onto the next game. I think the industry has changed on that…before it was very transactional. So then you focus on getting value to players out of what they paid for and if there was a system that wasn’t working then you put a pin in that and say we will fix it in the sequel. This time around we’re not doing it that way.”

Electronic Arts faced an unexpected challenge when it released Star Wars Battlefront II back in late 2017. At the time, the game came with a controversial Loot Box system that angered fans. The Loot Boxes ended up being removed, but still turned off some from the game’s release. Subsequently, DICE has provided a number of updates at no charge. Branvall seemed to indicate that this would continue as well.
“You’ll see us really overhauling bits that aren’t working and not be afraid of changing things, which means that your community is happier because it’s a better game overall,” added Brannvall. “We’re not afraid of making those changes, whereas if we’d been working on the sequel and it was just some paid season pass, that would’ve been ‘ok we’re not doing that for the sequel but we’re not gonna change it’.”
These updates will continue well into the holiday season, as the latest will tie in with the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. For those of you that want a new gaming challenge, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will hit consoles on November 15.
