Next week marks one year since Spider-Man swung onto PlayStation 4 consoles. Insomniac’s Spider-Man PS4 earned rave reviews and topped several Game of the Year lists in 2018. Now, to commemorate the anniversary, Insomniac is offering a new treat for fans. In a blog post via the official PlayStation website, Insomniac announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition is available today.
Insomniac Community Director James Stevenson penned the blog post. Among other things, he used the opportunity to once again thank gamers for their support over the last year.
“It seems crazy that just about a year ago people hadn’t yet had a chance to swing around Marvel’s New York,” wrote Stevenson. “We’ll always remember that first E3 in 2016, when our teaser trailer surprised fans that we had teamed up with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games to put our own spin on one of the most famous fictional characters of all-time. From working to nail web-swinging and acrobatic Spidey combat, to imagining a brand-new Spider-Man universe and storyline, and getting to build our own version of Marvel’s New York – it’s been a wild ride for all of us here.”

The Game of the Year edition $39.99 and includes the standard game, plus a voucher for all three installments of The City That Never Sleeps. That DLC story was released in three monthly chapters last year.
It looks like the original Spider-Man PS4 is going for less than $38 on Amazon. Picking up this new version is basically like buying the base game and getting the DLC for free. So it sounds like Insomniac’s target audience for the re-release is mainly new players. The DLC bundle can also be purchased on the PlayStation Store for $24.99.
