LucasFilm’s Jedi Fallen Order Game Takes Place In the Episode III Era

Just a few days ago during Star Wars Celebration, fans got a first look at Jedi Fallen Order. This is the latest game coming from Electronic Arts and Respawn, bringing single player adventure back into focus. But a few fans wondered why the game took place during the same time as Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. It turns out there’s a pretty good reason for that.

The official Star Wars page recently posted an interview with team members involved with the game. LucasFilm Games VP Douglas Reilly and Respawn CEO Vince Zampella spoke about different topics surrounding Jedi Fallen Order. To answer some inquiries, its place in the Star Wars general timeline came up.

Reilly explains that the heightened tension behind Episode III’s events tie in neatly with the game. “For us, it’s the opportunity to have that story of somebody who’s on the run, where there’s an omnipresent threat throughout,” he said. “And he’s having to deal with that, and being constantly on the move and being challenged, and using all of his growing powers to counter those threats.”

The game’s events unfold right after Emperor Palpatine executes Order 66, basically culling the Jedi from existence. However, there are a few that manage to escape, like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda. Cal, the star of Jedi Fallen Order, is among the lucky few. However, that luck begins to run out when he becomes a target to Clone Troopers and other foes.

Zampella also spoke about the importance of story in the Star Wars gaming universe.

“To be able to tell a story in the Star Wars universe, in the way that I’ve done for other properties I’ve worked on – Medal of HonorCall of DutyTitanfallApex Legends – and now we’re able to tell a story in one of the biggest IPs on the planet. And not only big, but core to my childhood and my identity. I grew up with Star Wars, and it formed who I am, so I feel lucky to be part of that.”

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order releases on November 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Fans should get a first look at its gameplay sometime in June, possibly during an EA Play showcase.
