Andor’s Tony Gilroy is ready to take a break from Star Wars.

Gilory is known for creating the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor, which will be returning for its second season later this month. He also worked on 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

While Andor has widely been met with critical acclaim thus far, Gilroy says he’s now ready to take a step back from the franchise following Andor Season 2.

What did Andor’s Tony Gilroy say about stepping away from Star Wars?

Gilroy told The Hollywood Reporter, “I think I’ve contributed enough for the time being; I think I’d like to do something else for a while. Never say never but right now I’d like to go back and direct a movie maybe.”

He also said of his time working on Star Wars, “I don’t think it’s a stretch at all to say this is the most important thing I’ll ever have a chance to work on. It’s a major chunk of my life. We made eight movies in five years, that’s what we did really. That’s how we think of it.”

Andor Season 2 stars Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, and Forest Whitaker.

“Rife with political intrigue, danger, tension, and high stakes, Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction: The Death Star, setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film,” the synopsis reads. “Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny. Andor Season 2 will see the characters and their relationships intensify as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.”

Andor Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on April 22, 2025.
