Lanterns‘ Aaron Pierre is doing his homework when it comes to preparing to play John Stewart in the DCU.
It was previously announced that Pierre will play John Stewart in the DCU Lanterns series, which will also star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The announcement was made shortly after the release of Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, which stars Pierre as a character named Terry Richmond.
Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Pierre provided an update regarding what made him want to play the John Stewart character in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU and how the process of preparing for the role has gone so far.
What did Aaron Pierre say about playing John Stewart in the DCU?
“DC gave me the call. I’m very grateful, very happy to be part of the team. This character is John Stewart. He’s part of the Green Lantern Corp. For me, this character has always radiated class. He’s always radiated charisma. Strength, identity. So I’m very happy to be bringing him to life in a live-action context,” he said.
Noting that he’s currently “training” for the role, Pierre said, “Most of what’s happening right now is my homework — my extensive DC homework and my physical preparation.”
Regarding the “DC homework” side of things, Pierre said he’s been doing a deep dive into relevant comics, films, television series, and more. “I’m just trying to be the best student I can, trying to get the best grades here,” he said.
He also commented, “It’s sort of familiarizing myself with things I already know, and then introducing myself to things I’m learning about. I’m mildly OCD, I’m very, very meticulous as a person, so I really want to leave no stone unturned and want to feel as prepared as I can going into this.”
A premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been officially announced.
