Peacemaker’s Amanda Waller Spin-off Series Gets Long-Awaited Update

DC Studios still plans on making the previously announced Peacemaker spin-off centered around Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.

The spin-off series, Waller, was part of James Gunn‘s initial DC Universe slate announcement in January 2023. Originally, the spin-off was set to premiere before Peacemaker Season 2, serving as a bridge between the John Cena-led show’s first and second seasons. However, as a result of the actors’ and writers’ strikes, Waller was pushed back, with Gunn later confirming that the series would now debut after Peacemaker Season 2.

With other DCU projects like Lanterns and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow currently casting ahead of 2025 production start dates, some fans expressed concern that Waller might have been canceled. However, Gunn recently eased those worries, revealing on the social media platform Bluesky (via X) that Waller was still in active development.

“It is yes,” Gunn wrote, responding to a fan who had asked if the spin-off was still happening as there had not been any major updates since the initial announcement.

A few days after Gunn’s Bluesky post, Screen Rant released its Creature Commandos interview with Steve Agee, who is confirmed to be reprising his role as A.R.G.U.S. agent John Economos in Waller. In the interview, Agee revealed that the scripts are still not finished for Waller, meaning that the spin-off is still a ways away from going into production.

“I think they’re still doing scripts, so there’s no set time yet, and James won’t start something until he’s absolutely happy with the scripts and they’re they’re ready to go,” he shared. “So once they’re ready, I’m sure he’ll announce a start time – as an actor who loves to work, it can’t happen soon enough, though, for me! (laughs)”

Amanda Waller will remain a major part of the DC Universe

Davis made her first appearance as Amanda Waller in the 2016 DC Extended Universe movie, Suicide Squad. She returned for the 2021 standalone sequel, The Suicide Squad, as well as the first season of the spin-off series, Peacemaker, with her last DCEU appearance being the 2022 movie, Black Adam. However, she is set to be one of the few DCEU actors to be brought back in the same role for the DCU. Her first appearance in the DCU will be in the adult animated series Creature Commandos. With a possible role in Peacemaker Season 2 and a starring role in Waller, Davis’ fan-favorite A.R.G.U.S. agent will continue to play a major role in the new shared universe.

Amanda Waller returns in Creature Commandos, which premieres on Max on December 5, 2024.
