Potential Spider-Man ’97 rumors have been swirling ever since the massive success of X-Men ’97. Spidey’s voice actor from the original animated Spider-Man series, however, he doesn’t think it’ll happen.
What did Peter Parker’s voice actor say about Spider-Man ’97?
In a recent post on X, Christopher Daniel Barnes — who played Peter Parker in the 1990s animated series Spider-Man, as well as a variety of roles in the 2013 Ultimate Spider-Man series — said that he hadn’t heard of any plans for a Spider-Man ’97 show, done in the same vein as the hit X-Men ’97 series. However, Barnes said he appreciates the love and support he’s gotten over the past few months.
“Hey everybody! As far as I know there are still no plans for a Spider-Man 97 show, but I sure do appreciate the love!” said Barnes in his post.
Rumors of a Spider-Man ’97 style show have been swirling around for some time now. Recently, insiders began mentioning that a revival of the original Spider-Man: The Animated Series had been discussed following the massive success of the Disney+ series X-Men ’97, which acted as a continuation of the original X-Men animated series and also featured Spider-Man in a brief cameo.
Barnes himself has actually mentioned a potential revival in the past, noting in May that he would love to do that, but hadn’t been contacted about it just yet.

While no Spider-Man ’97 series is seemingly in the works, Disney is working on its own animated series based on the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. The series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, is set to premiere on January 29, 2025, and will follow Peter Parker’s origin story and the early days of Spider-Man while Parker is in high school.
