The Penguin Continues To Break Viewership Records Ahead of Season Finale

Whether or not Oz Cobb takes over Gotham City’s criminal underworld, The Penguin has already won over the hearts of millions each week on HBO and Max.

What records did The Penguin viewership break?

Ahead of its season finale next month, The Penguin has broken another viewership record, with its fifth episode, “Homecoming,” attracting an average of 1.8 million U.S. cross-platform viewers. This is the drama series’ biggest single-day performance yet and is up 100 thousand from last week’s 1.7 million viewers cross-platform, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

Additionally, viewership for the series premiere of The Penguin has now grown to 14 million viewers. That’s an almost 10 million increase from the 5.3 million U.S. viewers who tuned in to HBO and Max on September 19 for the first episode of The Batman spin-off series.

Set one week after the events of the 2022 movie, The Batman, The Penguin follows Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb as he fights Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone for control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. The eight-episode limited series is the second entry in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga, serving as a bridge between The Batman and its upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2026.

Besides Farrell and Milioti, The Penguin stars Rhenzy Feliz as Victor “Vic” Aguilar, Deirdre O’Connell as Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Carmen Ejogo as Eve Karlo, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Berto Colón as Castillo, James Madio as Milos Grapa, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, and Mark Strong as Carmine Falcone, among others.

Additionally, Jayme Lawson and Con O’Neill reprise their respective roles from The Batman as Gotham City mayor-elect Bella Reál and GCPD Chief Mackenzie Brock.

The Penguin, which hails from DC Studios, is executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, and Lauren LeFranc, who serves as writer and showrunner.

The first five episodes of The Penguin are available to stream on Max, with Episode 6 set to debut on Oct. 27.
