With The Penguin streaming multiple episodes on HBO, anticipation for a potential Season 2 has begun. However, fans of Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe could remain hopeful after what showrunner Lauren LeFranc has teased for the future.
Lauren LeFranc says ‘there’s always room for more’ in The Penguin Season 2
Colin Farrell’s performance as Oz Cobb ensured high viewership for The Penguin, but whether that’s enough for Season 2 remains to be seen. When asked about future possibilities, Lauren LeFranc stated that many more stories could be told through the show.
Speaking with ScreenRant at New York Comic-Con, LeFranc said:
“Gotham is ripe to tell so many stories, the comics have shown that through decades and decades. I love this version of Gotham too. I love all the characters that we’ve gotten to explore in this world.”
Stressing on The Penguin Season 2, the showrunner added:
“I think there’s always room for more of that. If the story can be even better, absolutely.”
The ending of The Penguin will lead into Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II and Colin Farrell is also confirmed to return for it. But talking about coming back for a potential Season 2 on MAX, he wasn’t sure. Farrell said:
“Don’t get me wrong – I loved it – but it got in on me a little bit,” he added. “By the end of it, I was b******* and moaning to anyone who would listen to me that I f****** wanted it to be finished.”
However, later in the interview, the actor also confirmed that he might want to return for more in a year. So, fans of his character and show could keep high hopes for more to happen in Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. That is, if the ratings of The Penguin continue to remain strong. Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone at the moment of writing.
