Bruce Timm Turned Down Offer to Make More Batman: The Animated Series: ‘We’d Been There’

Bruce Timm says he turned down an offer to make more Batman: The Animated Series.

Batman: The Animated Series is a beloved superhero television show developed by Timm and Eric Radomski that originally premiered in September 1995. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series ran for 85 episodes and concluded in 1995.

Speaking with The Wrap, Timm revealed that Warner Bros. asked him around four or five years ago if he’d be willing to make more episodes of Batman: The Animated Series.

Why didn’t Bruce Timm want to make more Batman: The Animated Series episodes?

Timm explained, “They said, ‘Hey, how would you feel about going back and making some more Batman: The Animated Series episodes?’ And I’m like, ‘Nah, we’d been there, we’d done that.’ I wasn’t interested in just revisiting that world.”

While he fiddled with doing a Justice League series for a time, Timm was eventually drawn back to the world of Gotham with Batman: Caped Crusader, which is about a younger Bruce Wayne during the earlier days of his crime-fighting.

“The more we started talking about it, it was like, ‘Okay, that’s interesting. That’s interesting.’ And then we got really excited about it,” Timm said.”

Originally developed for Max, the first Batman: Caped Crusader is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The voice cast of the series includes Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Jason Watkins as Alfred Pennyworth, Eric Morgan Stuart as James Gordon, Krystal Joy Brown as Barbara Gordon, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, Christina Ricci as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Michelle C. Bonilla as Renee Montoya, Bumper Robinson as Lucius Fox, John DiMaggio as Harvey Bullock, Tom Kenny as Firebug, Minnie Driver as Oswalda Cobbplepot/Penguin, and more.

Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Batman: The Animated Series, meanwhile, is streaming on both Amazon Prime Video and Max.
