Batman: Caped Crusader Video Previews Three of Gotham’s Finest Rogues

A new teaser trailer for Batman: Caped Crusader has revealed that three lesser-known DC villains will be part of the upcoming Prime Video animated series.

Released on the official Batman X (formerly Twitter) account, the Caped Crusader teaser shines a spotlight on three villains who will debut during the 10-episode first season: Firebug, Gentleman Ghost, and Natalia Knight. Firebug, voiced by Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), is a pyromaniac, not unlike another Batman villain, Firefly, who has been around the pages of Batman comics since 1979.

Who are the villains introduced in the Batman: Caped Crusader video?

Gentleman Ghost (Percy Jackson’s Toby Stephens) first appeared in 1947’s Flash Comics #88. Typically depicted as an actual ghost with supernatural powers, Gentleman Ghost is an antagonist of Batman, The Flash, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl, among others. He previously appeared in the Batman animated series, The Brave and the Bold, where he was voiced by Greg Ellis.

Set to be voiced by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire star Mckenna Grace, Natalia Knight, a.k.a. Nocturna, debuted in Batman #363 in 1983. She typically operates at night due to having photosensitive skin. The Caped Crusader teaser hints at this sensitivity while also teasing that she will be able to suck energy from other humans.

Announced in 2021, Batman: Caped Crusader was originally in development for HBO Max but was shelved in August 2022 by Warner Bros. Discovery as part of larger cost-cutting methods. The cartoon was acquired by Prime Video in early 2023 and handed a two-season order.

In Caped Crusader, per the official logline, “the corrupt outnumber the good as criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear [in Gotham City]. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”

Besides the aforementioned actors, the voice cast for Batman: Caped Crusader includes Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Christina Ricci as Catwoman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, and Diedrich Bader as Two-Face, among others.

Batman: Caped Crusader premieres on Prime Video on August 1, 2024.
