Monarch: Legacy of Monsters star Anna Sawai says the second season of the MonsterVerse series will likely begin filming soon.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Sawai teased the return of her MonsterVerse character, Cate Randa, in the upcoming second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. She also said she expects production on the new season to begin sometime “soon” so the fans won’t have to wait a long time for the next MonsterVerse entry.
“I can’t tell you anything, because I actually don’t know what’s going on,” she said. “I literally got the call that it’s going to be renewed, and have heard nothing. And just earlier, they were like, ‘Oh, but you’re going to be part of it, right?’ And I was like, ‘I think so, because they did update me, as well.’ So, I really don’t know. But I think, and I hope, that we’re going to be shooting it soon because if we don’t shoot it soon, that means everyone’s going to be waiting for 2-3 years until the second season comes out. So, I believe it might be the next thing I do. Maybe.”
What is Monarch: Legacy of Monsters about?
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered on Apple TV+ in November 2023. The series follows the events of 2014’s Godzilla and follows a pair of half-siblings, Cate and Kentaro (Ren Watabe), as they investigate their father’s disappearance and his ties to the mysterious Monarch organization.
Along with Sawai and Watabe, the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters starred Kiersey Clemons, Wyatt Russell, Kurt Russell, Mari Yamamoto, and Anders Holm.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was officially renewed for a second season earlier this month. Apple TV+ also announced that more MonsterVerse spin-off series are in the works, though further details remain under wraps at this time.
