Game of Thrones: Kit Harington Says Jon Snow Spin-off Is No Longer in Development

Kit Harington says the Game of Thrones spin-off series primarily featuring Jon Snow is no longer in active development.

Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones in 2019, HBO began developing multiple spin-off series, including House of the Dragon. One of the series was said to be about Harington’s Jon Snow character, with George R. R. Martin confirming the news in June 2022. Martin also confirmed at the time that the working title of the show was Snow.

Speaking with ScreenRant, Harington, who was promoting Blood for Dust ahead of its release in theaters and on digital on April 19, said that the series was no longer moving forward at this time.

What did Kit Harington say about the Jon Snow spin-off?

“I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development,” he said. “I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed, and I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.”

Harington continued, “And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”

So far, House of the Dragon is the only Game of Thrones spin-off that’s made it to air, with the second season premiering on June 16, 2024. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, meanwhile, is currently expected to release in “late 2025,” according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.

A number of other Game of Thrones spin-offs are also still in various stages of development.

All eight seasons of Game of Thrones are currently streaming on Max.
