Andor Season 2: Stellan Skarsgård Offers Possible Release Window for Star Wars Series

Andor actor Stellan Skarsgård recently teased when the hotly-anticipated second season of the Star Wars series might be released on Disney+.

During an interview with GamesRadar+, Skarsgård shared that Andor Season 2 “will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next.” Lucasfilm was initially eyeing an August 2024 premiere for season two, but that was before production was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Stellan Skarsgård promises Andor Season 2 is worth the wait

In the same interview, Skarsgård hinted at what Star Wars fans can expect from the second and final season of Andor, promising that the series will continue to set itself apart from the other Star Wars shows on Disney+.

“It’s the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point. I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups — it’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable,” he explained. “I think we have a good season ahead of us.”

Andor is set five years before the events of the 2016 film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, focusing on the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire as well as the journey that led Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) to turn into the rebel hero seen in Rogue One.

The first season, comprising 12 episodes, aired on Disney+ between September and November 2022. The second season will also consist of 12 episodes.

In addition to Luna and Skarsgård, the ensemble cast for Andor includes Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, and Genevieve O’Reilly, the latter of whom is reprising her franchise role as Mon Mothma. Season 1 also featured the return of Forest Whitaker as Clone Wars veteran, Saw Gerrera.

Andor is currently streaming on Disney+.
