Star Wars: Andor Season 2 Is Days Away From Wrapping Production

Andor star Diego Luna has confirmed that principal photography on the Star Wars series’ second and final season is nearly complete.

“The good thing about Andor is that we know it has an ending,” Luna told Variety on the red carpet of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. “And it’s nice to work knowing there’s an ending and you can aim for something, you know? And we’re getting there. I have a few days to shoot…” When asked exactly how many days he has left on set, Luna replied, “I have seven days … tomorrow I’m flying back to London and we’re finishing this.”

Andor Season 2 initially began shooting in November 2022. However, production was briefly suspended in April 2023 due to landslip concerns. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike began one month later, causing yet another production pause. This was compounded by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strike that began in July. With both strikes having since wrapped up, cameras started rolling again earlier this month.

That said, while Luna only has a week of filming left, Andor Season 2 likely still has a lengthy post-production ahead of it. As it stands, the new season isn’t expected to premiere until sometime in 2025. The season had been targeting a 2024 launch prior to the strikes.

Andor Season 2 brings Cassian’s story full circle

Andor initially premiered on Disney+ in September 2022. The series serves as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with Luna reprising his role as Rebel spy Cassian Andor. Season 1 takes place five years before the events of Rogue One. Season 2 will cover the subsequent four years, leading directly into the events of the 2016 film. Like the first season, Andor Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes.

Since its debut, Andor has earned widespread acclaim for its more grounded, mature take on the Star Wars mythos. The show was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series that this year’s Primetime Emmys.

Andor Season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+. Season 2 does not have a premiere date.
