Eyes of Wakanda: Marvel Producer Teases Upcoming Animated Series

Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum has confirmed the plan to expand Black Panther‘s world on Disney+ with the animated Eyes of Wakanda.

In an interview with ComicBook.com promoting the upcoming Echo series, Winderbaum explained how Eyes of Wakanda was conceived. “It’s a show we’re producing in partnership with Proximity Media, with Ryan Coogler as one of our executive producers,” Winderbaum said. “The show was brought to us by Todd Harris, who was a longtime storyboard artist at the company, just like Bryan Andrews was, who is the director of What If…? He pitched the show to Ryan and he pitched the show to Kevin and I, and we were like, ‘Let’s do it.’ I don’t want to say too much about it, only that people do not see it coming.”

Few details are unknown about Eyes of Wakanda except for Masters of the Universe: Revelation writer Marc Bernardin confirmed to have penned two episodes of the series. “I wrote two episodes of it,” Bernardin said on the Fatman Beyond podcast. “So, I know some things about Eyes of Wakanda. I can’t say anything besides that or the snipers will get twitchy.”

Wakanda on the small screen

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was first attached to produce a Wakanda-centric series as early as 2021. Rumors suggested that Coolger and Marvel were developing a show surrounding the origin of Dora Milaje leader Okoye played by Danai Gurira in Black Panther and its sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Though Gurira confirmed talks with Marvel about the project, the studio has yet to officially announce if the Okoye series will move forward. In December, Marvel announced Eyes of Wakanda as part of Disney+’s animated slate for 2024.

“Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story,” the official description reads.

Eyes of Wakanda will debut on Disney+ in 2024.
