Echo director Sydney Freeland recently revealed that Daredevil will not be the only major Marvel Cinematic Universe character to cameo in the upcoming Marvel Spotlight miniseries.
Speaking with TV Insider, Freeland shared that Daredevil, whose appearance was recently teased in a new Echo trailer, is one of the many recognizable characters fans will see pop up in the hotly-anticipated series.
“There are a number of cameos in our series, and fans of the MCU will see characters from other films and shows that they recognize. But at the same time, you don’t have to have done your homework coming into this,” the director said. “People who aren’t familiar with the MCU can still come in and watch this.”
Is Hawkeye in Echo?
While Freeland remained tight-lipped about which MCU characters fans could expect to see in Echo, there are several who could appear, given their previous history with Echo, such as both Hawkeyes (Clint Barton and Kate Bishop). Daredevil’s inclusion in the series also opens the door for other Netflix street-level heroes to potentially make an appearance.
So far, the only returning characters officially confirmed for Echo are Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), and William Lopez (Zahn McClarnon).
What is Echo about?
“Streaming exclusively on Disney, the origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown,” the official synopsis reads. “She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.”
All five episodes of Echo will be released on Disney+ and Hulu on January 9, 2024.
