The BBC has released a trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Church on Ruby Road.” The trailer features an amusing song written by series composer Murray Gold. It also offers the first look at the Goblin King, who was presented as the chief villain of the story.
The trailer, which was released to the official Doctor Who YouTube channel, finds the goblins singing a gleeful song as they present a baby to their king. It is soon made clear that the baby is no guest, as the goblins’ song is about how much they love eating babies. (The Goblin King is also a far cry from the charming monster played by David Bowie in Labyrinth.)

What is The Church on Ruby Road About?
The Church on Ruby Road will be a notable episode for several reasons. Beyond being the first Doctor Who Christmas special since 2017, it is also the first solo outing for Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. The Church on Ruby Road will also introduce Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday, the Doctor’s newest companion. Beyond that, little had been revealed about the story, apart from it involving goblins and Christmas.
The episode synopsis reveals that Ruby Sunday is an orphan found in the snow on Christmas Eve. The mysterious circumstances of Ruby’s birth come into play after a chance encounter with The Doctor. This, in turn, leads to a fateful encounter with the Goblin King and the promise of more adventures to come in the next season of Doctor Who. It remains to be seen, however, if the new series will have more musical numbers like The Goblin Song.
Doctor Who: The Church on Ruby Road premieres on December 25 on BBC and Disney+.
