Doom Patrol’s Mark Sheppard Recovering From Multiple Heart Attacks

Actor Mark Sheppard, known for his recurring roles in TV series including Doom Patrol and Supernatural, has survived six sudden heart attacks and is now in recovery feeling “great.”

Sheppard shared a message and a selfie on his Instagram to inform his fans about the incident, apparently in good spirits considering what he had just endured. “You’re not going to believe this!” he wrote. “Was on my way to an appointment yesterday when I collapsed in my kitchen. Six massive heart attacks later, and being brought back from dead 4 times I apparently had a 100% blockage in my LAD. The Widowmaker.”

Sheppard credited the quick responses of his wife and the Los Angeles emergency services for saving his life. “My chances of survival were virtually nil,” he said, but immediately added the reassurance, “I feel great. Humbled once more. Home tomorrow!” He also gave a shoutout to fans of the long-running urban fantasy series Supernatural, using the hashtag #spnfamily.

Several of his co-stars from Supernatural and other projects responded to the post, including Tahmoh Penikett, Felicia Day, and Supernatural mainstay Misha Collins, who wrote, “Mark! You don’t need to do the most and biggest every time! 6 heart attacks? 2 or 3 would have been impressive enough. You’ve impressed us, okay. Now stop with this heal up and get back on the road with us. Love you, pal.”

Mark Sheppard’s career in genre television and beyond

In Supernatural, Sheppard played the demon Crowley, a recurring antagonist who first appeared in Season 5 of the show. He remained in the role through Season 12.

Sheppard is also known for roles in the cult classic sci-fi series Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse, Leverage, and many others. Most recently, he appeared in DC’s Doom Patrol as Willoughby Kipling, a magician and agent of the mystic Knights Templar who occasionally served as an ally to the Doom Patrol.
