Marvel Studios Scores 8 Children’s and Family Emmy Nods for GotG Spin-offs

Marvel Studios has secured a total of eight Children’s and Family Emmy nominations thanks to its Guardians of the Galaxy spin-offs on Disney+.

Per Marvel itself, The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special alone has received seven Children’s and Family Emmy nods. The late-2022 television special starring Dave Bautista and Pom Klementieff is up for Outstanding Achievements in Fiction Special, Directing for a Single Camera Program, Music Direction and Composition for a Live Action Program, Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design, Costume Design/Styling, Hairstyling and Makeup, and Stunt Coordination for a Live Action Program.

Meanwhile, I Am Groot has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form Program. The Vin Diesel-starring animated short series premiered its second season on Disney+ this past September.

What are Marvel Studios’ small-screen Guardians projects about?

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special premiered on Disney+ in November 2022. Set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the special takes place between the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). In it, Mantis (Klementieff) and Drax (Bautista) venture to Earth with the goal of kidnapping Footloose star Kevin Bacon and presenting him has a gift to Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt).

Meanwhile, I Am Groot debuted its first season on Disney+ in August 2022. Comprised of mostly dialogue-free animated shorts, the series follows the many adorable adventures of Baby Groot (Diesel). It takes place around the same time as GotG Vol. 2.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and both seasons of I Am Groot are currently streaming on Disney+.
