Loki EP Unpacks Season 2 Episode 4’s Shocking Cliffhanger

Loki executive producer Kevin Wright has unpacked the shocking final moments of Season 2, Episode 4, “Heart of the TVA.” This episode saw the Temporal Loom explode, seemingly destroying the Sacred Timeline and its many branches.

Speaking with TVLine, Wright opened up about ending “Heart of the TVA” with the Temporal Loom exploding and sending an apocalyptic blast of energy straight towards Loki, Sylvie, and the rest of their TVA allies.

“This is a game we would always play in Season 1,” Wright explained. “If you have a really cool story element that you want to tell, but it happens in the third act or it happens two episodes later, what happens if you cut out that middle stuff and just move it up?”

He continued, “This was never something that was going to happen at the end of the show, but it feels like it naturally would… What happens if you put it earlier? Well, one, it’s going to be shocking, which is always fun and a great thing for a TV show. But two, it then gives you this whole back half where you get to really push the characters and have more time to explore.”

Loki will survive the Temporal Loom explosion

While “Heart of the TVA” cuts to the credits before revealing if Loki, et al., survived the blast of energy, Wright strongly suggests during the interview that the titular God of Mischief will make it out alive.

“Everything has gone wrong, and now we have two episodes to push these characters to their absolute limits of who they are and how they’re going to overcome this,” teased Wright. “It lets us go to some really profound and beautiful places. It gave us story kindling, and we knew it would be fun and shocking.”

Loki Season 2 stars Tom Hiddleston as the Avengers: Endgame variant of Loki, following the fan-favorite God of Mischief as he works alongside the TVA to stop threats to both the Sacred Timeline and the wider multiverse. Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, Ke Huy Quan, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tara Strong, and Jonathan Majors also star.

Loki is available to stream on Disney+.
