Some time after Aamir and Tyesha’s wedding, Kamala and her mother, Muneeba, take a long plane ride to Pakistan. Muneeba makes it clear that she knows Kamala pulled the fire alarm at her brother’s wedding reception. But Muneeba felt that she had to bring Kamala to their homeland at the request of Sana (Muneeba’s mother and Kamala’s grandmother). Kamala and Muneeba are welcomed to Karachi by Sana, and by Kamala’s cousins. In private, Sana confirms to Kamala that they are Djinns, and their shared vision of the train has meaning.
The day after, Kamala ditches her cousins and sneaks into the historical section of the train station. She is soon attacked by Kareem/Red Dagger, who sensed the presence of Noor energy in her body. However, Kareem soon realizes that Kamala isn’t one of the Clandestine, and he invites her back to the Red Dagger lair. Kareem also introduces Kamala to his mentor, Waleed, who explains that the Noor dimension exists alongside our own. But if Najma and her Clandestines open the door back to the Noor dimension, it could destroy our world.

Regardless, Najma abandons her injured son, Kamran, because he sided against the family to aid Kamala. Somehow, the Clandestine track Kamala down in Pakistan, and they break into the Red Dagger’s lair. Kamala and Kareem flee while Waleed covers their escape. They clash with the Clandestine across the city, but Waleed is killed during the battle.
Kamala and Kareem are backed in a corner and forced to fight for their lives. Najma viciously attacks Kamala and strikes the bangle.
