Shortly after discovering her powers, Kamala Khan reunites with her best friend, Bruno Carrelli, as they attempt to learn more about her new abilities. Bruno theorizes that the bangle itself isn’t magical, Instead, it simply brings out the powers she already had. No one utters the word “Inhuman,” but there may be another explanation for her abilities. At school, Kamala is dismayed that her frenemy, Zoe Zimmer, is using her encounter with Kamala at AvengerCon to enhance her own popularity. She also claims that Kamala’s superhero name is “Night Light.”

Kamala also quickly becomes smitten with Kamran, a new senior at her high school. That’s why Kamala and her friend, Nakia Bahadir, go to Zoe’s party with Bruno in tow, just to get a chance to spend more time with Kamran. This proves to be fortuitous for Kamala, because Kamran helps her and her friends escape from the party when the cops break it up. Kamala and Kamran even bond over their taste in Bollywood films before he volunteers to give her driving lessons. Bruno quietly fumes over Kamala’s fast connection with Kamran because he seems to have romantic feelings for Kamala as well. Additionally, Bruno is told that he has the opportunity to begin college early, but it would take him away from New Jersey and Kamala.

In her spare time, Kamala tries to learn more about the bangle. Apparently it belonged to Kamala’s great-grandmother, Aisha. She disappeared in 1947 during the Partition of India. The topic of Aisha also turns out to be a taboo in the Khan family. But there is some evidence that suggests Aisha had powers as well. Kamala’s grandmother, Sana, was reunited with her father by following a light that sounds suspiciously similar to Kamala’s powers. At a family dinner, Kamala has a vision of a woman she has never seen before and she passes out.

The Department of Damage Control brings in Zoe for questioning, and she inadvertently reveals to agents Cleary and Deever that “Night Light” is a South Asian girl. At the Mosque’s annual Eid Al-Adha festival, Nakia follows Kamala’s suggestion and actively campaigns for the Mosque Board. Nakia even emotionally blackmails Kamala’s father in an attempt to win his support. While helping Nakia pass out fliers, Kamala learns that Aisha may have abandoned her family or killed someone. Shortly thereafter, a young boy foolishly leans out of a window at the mosque and nearly falls to his death. Kamala suits up to save the boy, but she has another vision of the woman and briefly loses her hold on the kid.

Thankfully, Kamala is still able to save the boy, albeit less gracefully than she hoped for. As Kamala tries to slip away, Damage Control drones and agents close in on her. Kamran pulls up in his car and helps Kamala escape. And in the backseat of the car is Kamran’s mother, the woman from Kamala’s visions.
