Loki Season 2 Starts Production in London Next Month

It’s been almost a year since Loki’s encounter with He Who Remains split the multiverse wide open and created a whole new timeline in the process. But the God of Mischief’s return to Disney+ is finally about to get underway. According to Production List, Loki season 2 starts shooting in London on June 6.

The first season of Loki picked up immediately following the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which a variant of Tom Hiddleston’s character used the Tesseract to escape capture by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Unfortunately, his efforts landed him squarely in the crosshairs of the Time Variance Authority. Loki was even coerced into working for them until he discovered that the TVA wasn’t all that it appeared to be.

So far, Loki is the only Marvel live-action show on Disney+ to get a second season. Series creator Michael Waldron is returning as an executive producer. However, Eric Martin is the new head writer for the series. Martin wrote season 1’s fourth episode and co-wrote the season finale. Season 2 will also feature some new talent behind the camera. Jason Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who recently helmed two episodes of Moon Knight, are directing the majority of Loki’s new episodes. The pair will replace Kate Herron, who previously directed all six episodes of Loki’s first season. Regardless, Herron is remaining also staying on board as an executive producer.

Hiddleston recently teased that season 2 will be more “chaotic” as it shows Loki’s ongoing quest for redemption. Presumably, the new episodes will also feature the return of Sophia D. Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer. But whether Jonathan Majors makes another appearance as He Who Remains (or his variant, Kang the Conquerer) remains to be seen.

Marvel hasn’t announced a release date for Loki season 2. But if the series is filming this summer, a 2023 premiere seems likely.
