The Boys Spinoff Finally Begins Shooting With New Cast Members

Amazon’s first live-action spinoff from The Boys has hit a few bumps in the road over the past several months. But now, more than a year and a half after the project was first announced, cameras are finally rolling. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Eric Kripke confirmed that the spinoff, which takes place at a college for young superhumans, began production last week.

Most of the new show’s recent hurtles involved a handful of principal cast members exiting their roles. Aimee Carrero and Shane Paul McGhie both departed the spinoff back in March, and they were followed by Reina Hardesty a month later. All three actors were attached to the spinoff for about a year. But because the series took so long to get off the ground, they could no longer afford to keep their schedules clear and ultimately decided to pursue other opportunities. The spinoff also went through a showrunner change, with Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters stepping in for Craig Rosenberg last fall.

Chance Perdomo was cast to replace McGhie less than a week after the latter exited the spinoff. Additionally, EW has confirmed that London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Shelley Conn have joined the project as new series regulars. There’s still no word on who most of these new actors are playing. But Thor will fill the role previously reserved for Hardesty.

“It’s been a long, winding process but I hope people like it as much as I like it,” said Kripke. “It’s a really smart, funny, insane show [and] it’s totally different than The Boys. But it’s completely within that world and tone.”

Amazon still hasn’t announced a title or a release date for The Boys spinoff. However, season 3 of  The Boys will premiere on June 3.
