Lucasfilm Announces That the Ahsoka Series Begins Filming Today

Way back in December 2020, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Ahsoka Tano would get her own live-action original series on Disney+ following her guest appearance on The Mandalorian. It’s taken almost a year-and-a-half for the show to start shooting, but the day has come. Via the official Star Wars Twitter account, Lucasfilm has announced that the Ahsoka series begins filming today.

Rosario Dawson will headline the series as Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Padawan who was trained by Anakin Skywalker himself. Ahsoka made her debut in Star Wars: The Clone Wars before taking a supporting role in Star Wars Rebels.

Lucasfilm hasn’t officially released story details for the show, but we can safely assume from her appearance on The Mandalorian that she is searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn. The series finale of Star Wars Rebels also indicated that Ahsoka and Sabine Wren were about to go looking for their lost friend, Ezra Bridger. Ezra and Thrawn disappeared in the same incident, and it’s likely that finding one will lead to the other.

Natasha Liu Bordizzo is portraying Sabine Wren on the show, while Hayden Christensen will also be back as Anakin Skywalker. Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ivanna Sakhno have also been cast in undisclosed roles. Ray Stevenson will portray one of the main villains, but not Thrawn.

Given that the series is only starting production today, the earliest the series could arrive would be sometime in 2023.
