In the aftermath of Marc Spector’s death, Layla El-Faouly can only watch as Arthur Harrow recovers Ammit’s ushabti. To avenge her husband, Layla infiltrates his group and prepares to kill him. However, the goddess Taweret reaches out to Layla through the corpses of Harrow’s victims. Taweret tells Layla that she has to free Khonshu in order to stop Harrow and Ammit. Taweret also offers to make Layla her avatar, but she refuses. Upon his arrival in the Chamber of the Gods, Harrow and his followers slaughter the gods’ avatars. He then frees Ammit from the ushabti, and offers himself to her judgment. Instead, Ammit tells Harrow that his destiny is to serve her.

Within the afterlife’s Field of Reeds, Marc refers to stay in paradise if it means his other self, Steven Grant, is frozen in the sands of the Duat for an eternity. Against the warning of Taweret, Marc races back to the Duat and rescues Steven. In turn, the Gates of Osiris open and allows both Marc and Steven to return to their body. Meanwhile, Layla releases Khonshu from his stone ushabti, and she immediately turns down his offer to be his new avatar. Khonshu tries to battle the newly awakened Ammit, but he loses badly. When Khonshu senses Marc’s return, he flees to his side and completes Moon Knight’s resurrection.

Before they agree to fight Ammit, Steven and Marc negotiate their freedom from Khonshu if they win. Back at the Chamber of the Gods, Layla finds a dying avatar, who tells her that Ammit must be bound to a human body by more than one avatar. With no other option, Layla agrees to temporarily become Taweret’s avatar, complete with her own winged superhero costume. Marc and Steven reunite with Layla as they battle Harrow and his forces, while Khonshu takes on Ammit in the distance. Harrow gains the upper hand in the fight, but Marc blacks out and discovers that he has somehow overpowered Harrow.

Using their powers in tandem, Marc and Layla bind Ammit to Harrow’s body. However, Marc and Steven refuse Khonshu’s order to kill Harrow in cold blood and they tell him to release them as promised. They briefly find themselves in the imaginary asylum before breaking free once and for all, and reclaiming their lives in London. Sometime later, Harrow is in a mental hospital and barely coherent. Much to Harrow’s shock, he is kidnapped and placed into a limo where Khonshu awaits. Khonshu explains that he kept his word to Marc and Steven, because he doesn’t need them or Layla. He has Marc’s third persona, Jake Lockley, a man who has no problem killing Harrow before driving off.
