Norman Reedus Comments on Melissa McBride’s Walking Dead Exit

AMC’s Walking Dead spinoff focusing on Carol and Daryl hit a snag last month when Melissa McBride announced her departure from the series. Regardless, the show is still moving forward with Norman Reedus as the sole headliner. And while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, Reedus was finally given a chance to address the situation.

Reedus and McBride are The Walking Dead’s longest-tenured cast members, so they were a natural fit to co-star in their own spinoff once the flagship series ends its 11-season run. Unfortunately, McBride was unable to travel to Europe to meet the show’s production schedule. But Reedus feels that she’s earned a break from zombie killing.

“Twelve years is a grueling schedule and she wanted to take some time off, so she’s doing that, explained Reedus. “She deserves it.”

Watching Daryl and Carol go their separate ways isn’t going to be easy, especially since their friendship has long been one of The Walking Dead’s hallmarks. However, Reedus’ insists that we haven’t seen the last of McBride’s character.

“I imagine those characters are gonna meet back up at some point and I might even meet up with some other characters down the road,” added Reedus. “But she’s taking time off and in the meantime, they were like, ‘Hey, you want to go on a mission?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah! Let’s go on a mission.’”

Reedus’ untitled Walking Dead spinoff will debut on AMC sometime next year.
