Marvel’s Ironheart Adds Two Directors, Ryan Coogler Joins as a Producer

As casting for Disney+’s Ironheart series continues, Marvel Studios is finally beginning to fill out the show’s behind-the-scenes crew. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes will each direct half of Ironheart’s six-episode first season. Additionally, Ryan Coogler, director of Marvel’s Black Panther films, has boarded the series as an executive producer.

Bailey will direct episodes 1-3 of Ironheart after previously working behind the camera on Dear White People, Grown-ish, and The Chi. She also created the web series Brown Girls and co-created You’re So Talented, both of which aired on Open TV. Meanwhile, Barnes will direct Ironheart’s remaining three episodes. Her resume notably includes episodes of Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest and Start’s Blindspotting.

Coogler, who recently wrapped production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will executive produce Ironheart through his Proximity Media banner. The company previously signed an overall deal with Disney in 2021 to produce new content for the studio over a five-year period. That includes an as-yet-untitled Wakanda series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other Proximity stalwarts, including Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, will serve as EPs on Ironheart as well.
