IDW’s Eve Stranger to Get TV Series From BBC Studios

She may be an amnesiac, but he can’t forget about her. Former IDW Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Chris Ryall will serve as an executive producer on an adaptation of the comic miniseries Eve Stranger, for BBC Studios. Deadline reports that the David Barnett and Philip Bond created comic will be developed for TV as part of a major push into the international market. They have not made an official deal with a distributor yet, and it would not necessarily be a BBC station. BBC Studios’ The End of the F***ing World previously aired on Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix internationally.

The official description of the comic reads as follows:

“Eve wakes up in a hotel room without knowing who she is or how she got there. Beside her is a teddy bear, a credit card, a briefcase of cash, a used syringe and a letter in her own handwriting that explains her next mission. She’s living week by week, undertaking different, seemingly impossible tasks on behalf of a mystery benefactor. Her bloodstream is flooded with nanobombs, and the contents of the syringe deactivates them for one week and also wipes her memory. Because every Friday morning she wakes up with a clean slate and a new job from black ops action/adventure hero to personal shopper, scuba treasure hunter to space station saboteur.”

Reviews described the story as being more linear and less disorienting than similar stories like Christopher Nolan’s Memento. The job-of-the-week format also allows for expansion into more episodes, should the show succeed. In a press release statement, Barnett said, “They totally get what Philip and I were doing with the Eve Stranger comics and I simply cannot wait to see how the high-octane thrills, quirky humor and sheer non-stop adventure is translated to television.”
