Ernie Hudson Cast In NBC’s Quantum Leap Revival Pilot

Last week, Raymond Lee was cast as the leading man in the new Quantum Leap revival pilot. Now, Deadline is reporting that Ernie Hudson has also been cast in a leading role on the potential show. Hudson is best known for playing Winston Zeddemore in three Ghostbusters movies. His current credits include BET’s The Family Business and Showtime’s City on a Hill.

The new pilot takes place three decades after the final episode of Quantum Leap, which featured Scott Bakula’s Dr. Sam Beckett as the time traveler. Lee will portray Dr. Ben Seong, one of the members of the Quantum Leap project who becomes the new time traveler in the revival. Hudson will play Herbert “Magic” Williams, “a Vietnam veteran and head of the time travel project at Quantum Leap.”

According to Deadline, Magic will use his skills as a politician and an officer “to keep the Pentagon at bay” after Seong disappears into the Quantum Leap accelerator. But he expects answers from Ben and the rest of the team.

Given Hudson’s status as a leading character, and the military experience of Magic, he could be the filling the role that Dean Stockwell’s Al Calavicci played in the original series. Because Sam was stuck in the past, the only way that Al could communicate with him was in the form of a hologram that only Sam could see and hear.

Bakula has had discussions with the producers of the new Quantum Leap, but he is not currently involved with the pilot.

La Brea‘s Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt are writing and executive producing the new Quantum Leap pilot. Martin Gero, Deborah Pratt, and Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario are also executive producing the revival.

The new Quantum Leap pilot will begin filming soon. NBC is expected to make a decision about the potential series before May.
