Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films are a hard act to follow. But later this year, JD Payne and Patrick McKay are going forward with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a new original series for Amazon Prime. This show is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s elaborate history of Middle-earth, and it takes place in the Second Age, thousands of years before Bilbo and Frodo’s adventures. However, there are still some familiar faces in The Rings of Power‘s trailer.
Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel and Robert Aramayo’s Elrond are both visible in the trailer. They may also be the only two major characters from the original trilogy to have major roles in this series. Some of the new characters are also glimpsed, including Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur) of the dwarves, and Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), an elf who seems to be a gifted archer. Story details are scant to find here. Regardless, the name of the series has already told us that the show will deal with Sauron’s creation of the Rings.

Nazanin Boniadi also stars in the series as Bronwyn, with Sophia Nomvete as Princess Disa, Charlie Vickers as Halbrand, Charles Edwards as Celebrimbor, and Maxim Baldry as Isildur. Markella Kavenagh and Megan Richards are playing Harfoots, a forerunner of the Hobbit race.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2.
