New members of the Bat Family are officially one step closer to joining The CW’s Arrowverse. The CW has announced a round of pilot orders for several prospective new series. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Gotham Knights made the cut.
Plans for Gotham Knights were originally announced back in December. If it actually gets picked up, the show will follow Batman’s “rebellious adopted son” who is framed for Bruce Wayne’s murder alongside the children of the Dark Knight’s enemies. In an effort to clear their names, these characters form a shaky alliance that puts them on the path to becoming Gotham City’s newest protectors.
Now that The CW has formally ordered a pilot for the series, we can probably expect casting announcements to break in the next few weeks. Leading the charge on Gotham Knights is the team of James Stoteraux, Natalie Abrams, and Chad Fiveash. All three have previously worked as writers on The CW’s Batwoman. However, THR once again states that this show is not a spinoff of that series. The project also has no connection to WB Montréal’s Gotham Knights video game that’s hitting consoles sometime this year.

Fiveash and Stoteraux will executive produce Gotham Knights alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Additionally, Abrams will serve as co-executive producer. To fill the pilot’s director’s chair, the creators have enlisted Danny Cannon, and luckily, he isn’t a stranger to the DC Universe. Cannon previously helmed several episodes of Gotham and Pennyworth. He is also remembered for directing 1995’s Judge Dredd movie starring Sylvester Stallone.
