Mary Elizabeth Winstead Joins Star Wars: Ahsoka on Disney+

The cast of Rosario Dawson’s Star Wars: Ahsoka series has just gained another familiar face. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has booked a role in the upcoming Disney+ spinoff. Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins.

Unfortunately, Lucasfilm hasn’t disclosed the nature of Winstead’s role. But she joins a supporting cast that also includes Hayden Christensen, who will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker from the Star Wars prequels. Natasha Liu Bordizzo will co-star as Rebels’ Sabine Wren, with Ivanna Sakhno in a mystery role. The Clone Wars creator Dave Filoni is writing and executive producing the series with Jon Favreau.

Winstead most recently headlined Netflix’s Kate and also played Helena Bertinelli/Huntress in Birds of Prey. Some of her other best-known roles include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 10 Cloverfield Lane, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. On the TV side, Winstead was also part of the main cast of Fargo’s third season on FX in 2017.

Dawson will headline the series as Ahsoka Tano, the Jedi heroine who was introduced in animated form as Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Ahsoka went on to appear in several episodes of Star Wars Rebels, and in 2020, Dawson made her first live-action appearance as the character in an episode of The Mandalorian season 2. Her new series will pick up after the events of that episode, presumably with Ahsoka hunting down Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Disney+ still hasn’t announced a release date for Star Wars: Ahsoka. The producers were reportedly hoping to start production in March. But it’s not clear if the recent rise in COVID cases is going to change that.
