Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Announces Title in New Teaser

Fans will have to wait until fall to journey once more into a live-action Middle-earth. But as of today, they know what title to look out for. Amazon Prime just announced that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be the official name of their in-universe series. With a release date of Sept 2nd previously revealed, the new title announce teaser doesn’t show footage, but offers clues aplenty of what we might see. Take a look:

So it would seem, from the video and the title, that the series may follow the forging of the original rings, and the trap Sauron ultimately used them to spring. Per the official synopsis:

“This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.”

“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”

While the Hobbit movies featured the resurrection of Sauron in the form of the Necromancer, The Rings of Power should show his first ascent from Morgoth’s side to Dark Lord. Which would lead us to wonder how he’ll appear, as he will not yet have lost the ability to be beautiful. Or corporeal.

Amazon already committed to five seasons of the series, which will take place in the same universe as the movies. Are you excited for The Rings of Power? Let us know in comments!
