SPOILER Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Image From Their Boba Fett Scene

WARNING: This post contains a SPOILER for The Book of Boba Fett episode 3, “The Streets of Mos Espa.”

In some ways, it’s hard to call it a surprise appearance. Director Robert Rodriguez loves working with a certain actor, and said actor rarely turns down a role. Still, many Star Wars fans were delighted to see Danny Trejo show up in their universe. As befits his usual style, he played a badass. Sensitive tears of Malakili aside, Rancor keepers have to stay tough. And once a fellow can face a Rancor, he can face a Mandalorian.

On his social media, Trejo shared a behind-the-scenes image. It reveals that while parts of the Rancor may have been CG, the head was very much a practical effect. It also offers a closer look at Trejo’s costume, which is sure to be duplicated on a toy some day. And fans of the Machete movies will undoubtedly get the in-joke, from the proposed threequel that has a trailer but still no feature…yet.

For anyone following Trejo’s career, there’s a fun symmetry here. Trejo played a Boba Fett-like bounty hunter in Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects. In it, he helped to track and spring a trap on the Firefly family the same way Fett and Darth Vader do in The Empire Strikes Back. Now he gets to serve the real Boba.
