HBO Max’s Harry Potter Reunion Special Conjures Up Its First Trailer

Some of Hogwarts’ most distinguished alumni are officially returning to the Great Hall for their 20-year reunion. Ahead of its debut on New Year’s Day, HBO Max has dropped the first official trailer for Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which features several cast and crew members reflecting on all eight films in the original franchise.

It’s a well-worn cliché at this point to say the Harry Potter series gave fans a front-row seat as its young stars grew up on camera. But now, 10 years after the last installment hit theaters, the new special will show us what kind of adults (some of whom now have kids of their own) they turned into and the role Harry Potter played in their growth as both actors and human beings. And what better way to ponder this question than by revisiting iconic sets like Platform 9 ¾, the Room of Requirement, and Diagon Alley?

The core trio of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson will be on hand for the special. Plus, HBO Max subscribers will catch up with several other former Hogwarts students. The guest list includes Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley); Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy); James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George); Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom); Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas); and Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood).

Additionally, a few old heads will join in on the fun. Viewers can also expect appearances by Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), and Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid). We’ll even get to hear from the franchise’s two biggest villains: Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Producer David Heyman and directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell, and David Yates will appear as well.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will stream on HBO Max on January 1.
