The Batman Blu-ray Collection Delayed To March 2022

Last month, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced that all 65 episodes of The Batman animated series would be released on Blu-ray for the first time next year. This news was met with resounding enthusiasm from any DC fans who came of age during the show’s original 2004-2008 run on Kids’ WB. Unfortunately, they’re going to have to wait a bit longer for the new collection to hit shelves. The studio just shifted the box set’s release date from February 1 to March 1, 2022. Apparently, they need the extra month to ”enhance the visibility of the box set in retail outlets.”

The move isn’t drastic. Regardless, it will surely disappoint anyone who was excited to sink their teeth into the Blu-ray’s new special features. Some of the available bonus content will explore the series’ beginnings with new insight from its creators. Viewers can also try their hand at new trivia challenges and dive into the GCPD’s case files on Batman’s colorful rogues gallery. Other featurettes will take a closer look at The Batman’s final two seasons and examine Bruce Wayne’s journey to become the hero he was destined to be.

Although Batman: The Animated Series set a very high bar for superhero cartoons in the early ’90s, The Batman successfully managed to escape the shadow of its predecessor. By centering on a younger Bruce Wayne and detailing his efforts to gain Gotham’s trust, the series was able to carve out its own niche and put a unique spin on the Dark Knight mythos. All four seasons are currently available to stream on HBO Max.
