Rumors swirled yesterday that the former Ron Swanson, Nick Offerman, would join The Last of Us on HBO, currently filming. Today, thanks to Variety, we know who he’s playing. Offerman will be Bill, a role previously cast with Con O’Neill, who had a scheduling conflict and was forced to bow out. In the original video game, Bill is a survivalist and smuggler. Owing primary protagonist Joel a favor, he helps him secure a working vehicle to make the post-apocalyptic journey a little easier. Joel, of course, will be played by Pedro Pascal on the HBO series, based on the video game franchise.
Offerman joins Pascal, along with Bella Ramsey as Ellie, the co-lead and seemingly sole immune survivor of a deadly fungus. Also cast so far are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, Nico Parker as Joel’s daughter Sarah, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Anna Torv as Tess, and Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, a character not seen in the game.

Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin executive produces The Last of Us, along with the original game’s Neil Druckmann. Carolyn Strauss, Rose Lam, Naughty Dog president Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will also executive produce. Kantemir Balagov will direct the pilot, with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbasi also attached to direct. The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, Word Games, and Naughty Dog.
