Netflix Announces Full Genre Slate For 2022

Netflix really embraced its nerdy side this year with dozens of new sci-fi, fantasy, and horror shows arriving on the platform over the last 12 months. But luckily, the fun isn’t stopping there. As 2021 draws to a close, Netflix has just revealed its full slate of genre projects hitting screens next year. And the streaming service intends to keep flying its geek flag proudly throughout 2022.

The year will kick off with the premiere of three new shows: Archive 81 (January 14), In From the Cold (January 28), and Vikings: Valhalla (February 25). February will also see the return of the superhero series Raising Dion, which debuted on Netflix last year, and will air its second season on February 1. Unfortunately, many of the platform’s other new and returning series still don’t have official release dates. But that doesn’t make them any less highly-anticipated…

After spending decades in development hell, The Sandman is getting a proper adaptation next year with showrunner Allan Heinberg guiding the ship. Subscribers previously got their first look at the series during Netflix’s Geeked Week festivities earlier this year. Additionally, the streamer has its own live-action Resident Evil series in the works with a cast headlined by Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker. And as anticipation builds for this month’s season 2 premiere of The Witcher, viewers can also look forward to its upcoming spinoff, The Witcher: Blood Origin.

Netflix also has a few exciting projects on its animated slate. This includes Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, a prequel series that tells the origin of Dave Bautista’s Scott. Plus, we’re finally getting a new Magic: The Gathering series from eOne. And viewers are saving most of their excitement for the platform’s returning hits: Locke & Key, The Umbrella Academy, and Stranger Things.
