Last month, Star Trek fans witnessed the first flight of the Protostar’s new crew in Star Trek: Prodigy. And while the alien kids have a long way to go before they reach the Alpha Quadrant, Prodigy‘s immediate future is secure. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 is a go at Paramount+ after an early renewal.
The animated series is geared towards younger viewers, and stars Ella Purnell as Gwyn, a young alien on the run from her father, The Diviner (John Noble). Somewhere in the Delta Quadrant, Gwyn and her new friends have discovered the USS Protostar, a seemingly abandoned Starfleet ship. It’s also their only hope of escaping The Diviner and his enforcer, Dreadnok (Jimmi Simpson). Brett Gray also stars as Dal, with Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, and Kate Mulgrew as a holographic program based on Captain Kathryn Janeway.

Additionally, Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins told THR that Prodigy could lead to an animated feature film as well. According to the report, the new animated Star Trek movie would be released theatrically instead of dropping on Paramount+ directly. Beyond that, no further details were divulged.
Star Trek: Prodigy will have a mid-season finale on November 18. Regardless, new episodes will resume on January 6, 2022. There are also ten additional episodes that will comprise Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, part 2. Those episodes will debut later in 2022.
