Before the end of the month, the only original member of the Avengers not to have a solo movie is getting his series, as Hawkeye lands at Disney+. Its story loosely adapts the 2012 comic book arc teaming Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, created by Matt Fraction and David Aja. And fans should spot plenty of references to that iconic work.
“The Fraction/Aja style and tone is what we were really gravitating towards,” Hawkeye executive producer Trinh Tran said, while talking with EW. “Once they encounter each other and go off on this journey together, there’s so much they can bounce off each other.”

The show will officially introduce Kate Bishop in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bishop, portrayed by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Bumblebee alum Hailee Steinfeld, will likely take over the mantle of Hawkeye. To better prepare for the role, Steinfeld spent many hours watching actors and professional archers shoot arrows, though actually taking it up was a different matter. Ultimately, she dedicated herself, body and soul, to master this skill.
“I wanted [the archery] to be second nature by the time I got out to Atlanta to shoot, but the first time we met, Jeremy was like, ‘Listen, you’re going to get there and you’re not even shooting a real arrow, it’s all CGI,'” she said. “But I was still grateful to have the mechanics down.”
Disney+ will release the first two episodes of Hawkeye on Thursday, November 24.
