Paramount+ Gains Aeon Flux Reboot, Plans Teen Wolf Revival

Alongside its expanding Star Trek universe and the live-action Halo series, Paramount+ is hoping to boost its subscriber numbers with two more throwback properties. Variety is reporting that the streaming service is developing a movie revival of MTV’s Teen Wolf series. Additionally, the platform will serve as the new home of the previously-announced live-action reboot of Aeon Flux.

Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis is developing the revival as part of his new overall deal with MTV Entertainment Studios. The original series aired from 2011 to 2017. It was loosely inspired by the 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox. However, it seemed like it was redesigned to capitalize on the popularity of the Twilight films, with a more serious take on the premise and an expanded mythos of supernatural threats. Davis will write the revival movie himself and also serve as an executive producer. The original cast members, including series star Tyler Posey, are in talks to return.

Davis is also working with Paramount+ on another supernatural horror property. He is currently developing a series based on Edo Van Belkom’s Wolf Pack novels. Davis will serve as the showrunner for that project as well.

Rounding out Davis’ busy schedule is the Aeon Flux reboot, which also counts him as its showrunner. It’s based on the original Aeon Flux animated shorts and series that ran on MTV between 1991 and 1995. MTV was originally producing the reboot as well, but plans have clearly been changed.

Charlize Theron previously headlined a big-screen adaptation of the series in 2005. Unfortunately, the movie was critically panned and bombed at the box office, with even Theron herself admitting to Variety in 2017 that they “f***ed it all up.” Gale Anne Hurd, who produced the film version, is also working on the reboot as an executive producer.
